An Idea is Born

In 1997, a small group of people who marched in the Calgary drum corps, got together and decided to start an alumni association as a way to keep in touch with the friends they made over the years.   In 1999, that same small group decided that they were not yet “too old” to perform….so they formed “Expired” Winterguard.   With the help of word-of-mouth, Expired started with a group of 9 members made up of past drum corps and marching band members.  Now known as Encorps, we have 3 programs for members of all skill levels aged 12 and up.

Our Mandate, Mission and Vision

Mandate: Encorps Winterguard provides creative, performance-based programs that develop confident performers, capable instructors and engaged community members through training, teamwork and artistic excellence.

Mission: Sponsored by the Spirit of Drum Corps Alumni Association, Encops creates inclusive, high-quality winterguard experiences for performers of all ages and skill levels. We inspire growth through movement, music, equipment, performance and mentorship while building a positive, supportive environment for members, instructors and audiences.

Vision: To be welcoming and forward-thinking winterguard organization known for creativity. integrity, accessibility and meaningful experiences that support lifelong learning, confidence and connection.

Values: Empowerment, Nurturing growth, Collaboration, Openness, Respect, Potential, Sportsmanship, Welcoming community and Genuine connection.

Objectives: Encorps aims to provide accessible opportunities for members to learn, perform and grow; strengthen technical, artistic and leadership skills; encourage creativity, confidence and personal responsibility; promote fair play, teamwork and respect; build awareness and appreciation of winterguard; support instructor development and mentorship; and contribute positivity to the broader community through performances, events and engagment.
